Automation and Controls Engineer

About the role

The Automation and Controls Engineer will design and implement capital improvements to the sugar refinery at the Paul, ID plant. They will manage process improvement projects including electrical, mechanical, and chemical systems in a heavy industrial environment. The position reports to the Process Optimization Manager.

Responsibilities

• Develop and manage process improvement projects
• Manage multiple projects, prepare budgets and proposals, coordinate efforts of several departments
• Provide a leadership role in the development, installation, and monitoring of each project through commissioning
• Provide technical assistance in new equipment installation and commissioning
• Help maintain database historian
• Perform technical studies

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering required, preferably in Automation or Electrical engineering
• A professional engineering license or the desire to obtain a license is a plus
• 5+ years’ experience with Electrical Controls in a processing plant environment
• PLC programming: ideally Rockwell HMI programming: ideally Factory Talk and PanelView
• Ability to program and troubleshoot Electrical Drives power and controls
• Ability to design, program and troubleshoot Ethernet networking of devices to PLC (VFD’s, instruments…)
• Basic electrical power distribution
• Strong communication skills
• Considerable experience in processing systems in a manufacturing environment and current Engineering design practices
• Prefer candidate possess knowledge and incorporate/practice GMP, food safety and food quality in all engineered planning, design, construction, and operation
• Experience with process control is a plus
