Controller, Retail
Position Overview
As a Retail Controller, you will play a vital role in ensuring the financial health and operational efficiency of our retail stores including Minuteman Food Mart convenience stores, as well as our branded restaurants. You will be responsible for overseeing all financial aspects of the store, including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and inventory management.
Essential Job Functions
Financial Management: Develop and manage the store budget in collaboration with store management and corporate finance team. Monitor financial performance against budget and forecast, identifying variances and implementing corrective actions as needed. Prepare regular financial reports, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements. Analyze financial data to identify trends and opportunities for cost savings or revenue enhancement.
Inventory Management: Oversee inventory control processes, including monitoring stock levels, conducting regular inventory counts, and reconciling discrepancies. Work closely with the store leader and marketing team to optimize inventory levels and minimize stockouts and overstock situations. Analyze inventory data to identify slow-moving or obsolete items and recommend strategies for clearance or disposal.
Cost Control: Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement initiatives to reduce expenses without compromising quality or customer service. Review expenses regularly to ensure adherence to budgetary constraints and company policies.
Compliance and Reporting: Ensure compliance with all financial regulations and company policies. Prepare and submit tax filings, as required by local regulations. Coordinate with auditors during financial audits.
Team Collaboration: Collaborate with store management and other department heads to align financial goals with overall business objectives. Provide financial guidance and support to store staff, helping them understand the financial implications of their decisions.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. Advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., CPA, CMA) preferred.
Proven experience in financial management, preferably in a retail environment.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and make strategic recommendations.
Proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Excel.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy.
Able to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Regular interaction with store management, staff, and corporate finance team.
