POSITION SUMMARY
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading non-profit charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Controller is accountable to assist the CFO in improving overall financial health as well as maintaining full compliance with all applicable regulations.
CORE
Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes and reporting. Prepare and analyze financial statements, management reports, and variance analyses. Perform month-end and year-end closings, including to but not limited to bank reconciliation reviews, balance sheet analysis, closing journal entries, and posting monthly accruals. Ensure financial statements are accurate and prepared in accordance with GAAP Manage and develop accounting staff and foster a collaborative and high-performance team environment. Lead the preparation of reports for all required governmental agencies and Y-USA annual financial submission. Leads process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
AUDIT OWNERSHIP
Lead the annual audit process end-to-end Prepare and review audit workpapers and supporting schedules Serve as the primary contact for external auditors
SUPPORTING REQUIREMENTS
Support the CFO in managing the annual budgeting process QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in accounting 8+ years of progressive accounting experience. 3-5 years of experience managing a team. Advanced Excel and accounting systems proficiency Approachable, collaborative, and influential partner to business leaders Proven experience owning month-end close and financial statements Direct experience leading or heavily supporting annual audits Strong knowledge of GAAP and accrual accounting PREFERRED: Experience working in at a nonprofit organization is preferred CPA experience Experience overseeing or partnering on payroll processes YMCA LEADERSHIP COMPETENCIES: Building relationships Financial Management Critical Thinking & Decision Making Problem Solving & Results Driven Emotional Maturity Developing Self & Others WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
