About the role
The Controller will lead all corporate accounting operations, including general ledger, month-end close, financial reporting, account reconciliations, fixed assets, and internal controls. They will build, mentor, and develop a newly created accounting team while establishing a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. They will partner with executive leadership to create scalable accounting processes capable of supporting rapid organic growth and future acquisitions. The role involves leading financial integration efforts for acquired businesses, driving ERP implementations, system upgrades, and accounting technology initiatives, and overseeing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
Responsibilities
- Lead all corporate accounting operations, including general ledger, month-end close, financial reporting, account reconciliations, fixed assets, and internal controls.
- Build, mentor, and develop a newly created accounting team while establishing a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Partner with executive leadership to create scalable accounting processes capable of supporting rapid organic growth and future acquisitions.
- Lead financial integration efforts for acquired businesses, including chart of accounts alignment, accounting policy standardization, system conversions, process harmonization, and post-close optimization.
- Drive ERP implementations, system upgrades, and accounting technology initiatives designed to improve reporting efficiency and strengthen internal controls.
- Develop standardized accounting policies and procedures across multiple operating entities.
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial statements.
- Maintain compliance with U.S. GAAP and company accounting policies.
- Strengthen the company's internal control environment and identify opportunities for automation and process improvement.
- Collaborate closely with Operations, Finance, IT, and executive leadership on cross-functional initiatives.
- Support annual audits, lender reporting, and private equity ownership reporting requirements.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow reporting, and financial analysis as needed.
- Evaluate accounting risks associated with new business initiatives, acquisitions, and operational changes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- CPA strongly preferred.
- 8+ years of progressive accounting leadership experience, including Controller or Assistant Controller responsibilities.
- Previous commercial construction industry experience is required.
- Experience working in a private equity-backed organization is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated success leading accounting integration efforts for acquisitions.
- Hands-on experience with ERP implementations, system conversions, or large-scale accounting process improvements.
- Strong understanding of percentage-of-completion accounting, job costing, WIP reporting, retainage, and construction financial reporting.
- Prioritizing hands-on experience with WIP and/or percentage of completion accounting.
- Proven ability to build and develop accounting teams in rapidly changing organizations.
- Advanced knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting.
