About the role
We are recruiting a Controller for a long-standing organization in the Raleigh area. This individual will provide hands-on leadership across the accounting function, ensure timely and accurate financial reporting, maintain strong internal controls, and partner with senior leadership on financial planning and operational initiatives. The ideal candidate will have experience navigating the financial complexities of a multi-site healthcare environment.
Responsibilities
- Oversee all day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, cash management, and fixed assets.
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Lead the month-end and year-end close processes while ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Manage the annual audit process and serve as the primary liaison with external auditors.
- Maintain and enhance internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures to support compliance and operational efficiency.
- Oversee accounting for grants, restricted funding, third-party reimbursement programs, and other regulated revenue streams.
- Partner with revenue cycle and operational leaders to ensure accurate financial reporting and support ongoing performance improvement initiatives.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff while fostering a collaborative, high-performing team environment.
- Partner with executive leadership to support budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, strategic planning, and continuous process improvement.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA strongly preferred.
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibilities within healthcare, nonprofit, or similarly regulated environment.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls, audit coordination, healthcare reimbursement, and fund or grant accounting.
- Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP or accounting systems, along with strong communication, analytical, and organizational abilities.
