About the Role

Our client is a rapidly growing, highly profitable entrepreneurial company seeking a Controller to help lead its next phase of expansion. This is not a traditional Controller role. The company is looking for a strategic, hands-on financial leader who can build, improve, and scale the accounting and finance function while serving as a trusted advisor to executive leadership.

The organization operates across multiple business lines and entities, including project-based operations, consulting, asset-based investments, and a technology-enabled marketplace. The Controller will play a critical role in strengthening financial infrastructure, improving visibility into performance, and supporting continued profitable growth.

Responsibilities

  • Partner directly with the Founder and leadership team on financial strategy and business performance.
  • Develop financial models, forecasts, KPI dashboards, and profitability analysis.
  • Provide insight into revenue growth, margins, overhead, hiring ROI, and capital requirements.
  • Support strategic planning, growth initiatives, and investor reporting.
  • Lead GL, AP, AR, payroll, month-end/year-end close, and financial reporting.
  • Build and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and scalable processes.
  • Manage multi-entity accounting, consolidations, and intercompany transactions.
  • Ensure timely and accurate financial statements and management reporting.
  • Manage percentage-of-completion accounting, WIP schedules, and revenue recognition.
  • Oversee job costing, project margins, billing cycles, and cost allocations.
  • Analyze profitability by project, entity, and business line.
  • Manage liquidity, weekly cash positioning, and working capital.
  • Develop rolling cash flow forecasts and capital plans.
  • Support banking, CPA, investor, insurance, and professional advisor relationships.
  • Oversee payroll and benefits administration.
  • Help ensure compliance with applicable accounting, tax, HR, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support a collaborative, accountable, high-performance culture.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting/finance leadership experience.
  • Strong financial modeling, forecasting, and analytical skills.
  • Advanced Excel and QuickBooks experience required.
  • Construction, project-based, landscaping, or asset-based industry experience preferred.
  • Percentage-of-completion and WIP accounting experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience building processes and systems within a growing entrepreneurial company.
  • Strong communication skills and executive presence.
