Responsibilities
- Direct the day-to-day operations of the finance and accounting team, providing leadership across accounting, payables, receivables, payroll coordination, and financial reporting activities.
- Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close cycle, ensuring financial statements are complete, accurate, and issued within established timelines.
- Prepare and oversee core financial reports, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, work-in-process reporting, and departmental performance summaries.
- Establish recurring weekly and mid-month reporting tools that give leadership timely visibility into financial results and emerging issues before period end.
- Refine the chart of accounts, accounting workflows, internal controls, and reporting frameworks to improve consistency, transparency, and compliance.
- Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, including collections, disbursements, aging review, and account reconciliations.
- Supervise payroll-related accounting, including commissions, incentive compensation, bonuses, and other compensation transactions.
- Maintain the integrity of the general ledger through accurate journal entries, bank and credit card reconciliations, balance sheet reviews, and proper classification of revenue and expenses.
- Monitor job costing and project-related financial tracking for labor, materials, inventory, subcontractor costs, commissions, and other direct cost elements while evaluating budget-to-actual performance.
- Serve as the primary financial contact for external partners such as auditors, tax advisors, banks, insurance providers, and CPAs, while coordinating tax filings, year-end requirements, external reviews, and operational system integrations as needed.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience in a Controller, Assistant Controller, Director of Accounting, or similar finance leadership role.
- Background in construction and retail home services environments is REQUIRED.
- Hands-on experience using Sage Intacct is REQUIRED.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Strong expertise in job costing, gross margin analysis, accrual-based accounting, financial statement preparation, and internal controls.
- Demonstrated success leading accounting or finance teams and building disciplined processes in a growing organization.
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow oversight, accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, payroll accounting, and month-end close activities.
- Advanced Excel skills with the ability to analyze data, build financial models, and communicate findings clearly to both executives and operational leaders.
