We are looking for an experienced Controller to lead core accounting operations and strengthen financial stewardship for a growing consumer products business in New York, New York. This position will oversee financial close activities, improve reporting for leadership, and enhance the structure of the accounting function as the company expands. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting knowledge, sound judgment, and a practical approach to building efficient, well-controlled processes.
Responsibilities
- Direct the monthly, quarterly, and annual close cycle across income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow reporting to ensure timely and accurate financial results.
- Manage, mentor, and expand the accounting team by establishing clear expectations, elevating performance standards, and supporting long-term capability building.
- Modernize accounting operations by reducing reliance on manual spreadsheets and introducing more efficient workflows across accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and close procedures.
- Prepare clear, decision-focused financial reporting materials that provide executive leadership with meaningful insights for planning and performance review.
- Serve as the lead on technical accounting matters, including revenue recognition, inventory accounting, and other complex issues common in a high-growth consumer brand environment.
- Design, implement, and maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and supporting documentation to promote compliance and consistency.
- Partner closely with FP&A, operations, tax, and external audit teams to support financial accuracy, business alignment, and successful reporting outcomes.
Requirements
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibility within a controllership or corporate accounting function.
- Strong command of month-end close processes, financial statement oversight, and balance sheet reconciliation.
- Hands-on experience with accounts payable and accounts receivable operations in a fast-paced business setting.
- Proficiency with NetSuite and the ability to use accounting systems to improve process efficiency and reporting quality.
- Solid knowledge of US GAAP, including application of technical accounting principles in complex operating environments.
- Background in the CPG sector or another inventory-driven consumer business is strongly preferred.
- CPA designation required or strongly preferred, depending on overall depth of experience and technical expertise.
