Responsibilities
- Direct audit readiness efforts by organizing support schedules, coordinating requested documentation, and resolving accounting or control issues ahead of the company’s first external financial statement audit.
- Build and refine accounting frameworks, policies, and internal control procedures that can support a growing retail organization with increasing operational complexity.
- Oversee inventory accounting activities, including valuation methods, physical count processes, purchasing-related accounting, and cost flow analysis to improve accuracy and insight.
- Lead accounts payable and accounts receivable functions to strengthen process consistency, improve reporting visibility, and support healthier cash flow management.
- Manage the month-end close process and financial statement preparation, ensuring reporting is accurate, timely, and aligned with applicable accounting standards.
- Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, reduce manual effort, and introduce automation that improves efficiency across the accounting function.
- Provide accounting leadership during enterprise system implementation activities, including process alignment, control design, and collaboration around NetSuite-related workstreams.
- Coach and support entry-level accounting staff while coordinating effectively with external or offshore resources to maintain productivity and quality.
- Partner with executive leadership on financial oversight, operational decision-making, and process improvements that support long-term business growth.
Requirements
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibility within a controller or senior accounting capacity.
- Demonstrated success preparing an organization for a financial statement audit, including creation of audit schedules, PBC support, and remediation of control gaps.
- Strong background in retail, e-commerce, consumer products, resale, or other inventory-intensive environments.
- Deep knowledge of inventory accounting, annual inventory procedures, working capital considerations, and month-end close activities.
- Experience establishing and improving accounting policies, internal controls, and financial reporting processes in a growing business environment.
- Familiarity with ERP implementation or optimization work; NetSuite experience is strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to balance strategic leadership with hands-on execution in a fast-paced, evolving organization.
- Active CPA credential is preferred.
