About the role
We are looking for an experienced Controller to lead the accounting and financial reporting activities for a portfolio of commercial real estate assets in Nashua, New Hampshire. This role will oversee the full close cycle, deliver accurate financial statements, and provide insight into budgets, forecasts, and operating results. The ideal candidate brings strong property accounting expertise, works effectively with cross-functional stakeholders, and is committed to building efficient, well-controlled financial processes.
Responsibilities
- Direct accounting operations and financial reporting for a portfolio of commercial real estate properties, ensuring timely and accurate results.
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities, including preparation and review of financial statements and supporting schedules.
- Evaluate operating performance by reviewing budgets, forecasts, and financial variances, and communicate key findings to leadership.
- Collaborate with property management teams on tenant billing, lease-related accounting, reconciliations, collections activity, and expense tracking.
- Monitor cash activity across the portfolio, including banking relationships, reserve balances, receivables, and payment disbursements.
- Supervise and develop a three-person accounting team responsible for accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger functions.
- Enhance accounting policies, standard procedures, and internal controls to improve accuracy, consistency, and compliance.
- Lead initiatives that streamline workflows and improve reporting efficiency across the accounting organization.
- Coordinate external audit support, tax-related activities, and communication with outside advisors.
- Partner with senior leadership and corporate finance to support reporting needs, compliance expectations, and broader business initiatives.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of experience in accounting or finance, with direct exposure to commercial real estate or property management accounting.
- Demonstrated ability to manage financial close processes, prepare financial statements, and analyze budget-to-actual performance.
- Experience overseeing cash management, reconciliations, collections, and disbursement activity for multiple properties or entities.
- Prior leadership experience guiding accounting staff across payables, receivables, and general ledger responsibilities.
- Strong knowledge of internal controls, accounting policies, audit coordination, and compliance-focused reporting.
- Proficiency with Yardi and solid capability working within property accounting systems and related reporting tools.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to work closely with property management, finance partners, and executive stakeholders.
