About the role
We are looking for an experienced Controller to lead accounting operations for a contract position. This role is responsible for delivering accurate monthly financial reporting, overseeing day-to-day financial controls, and supporting the organization with sound accounting guidance. The ideal candidate brings strong leadership, hands-on technical accounting expertise, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Direct the daily activities of the accounting function, ensuring financial records are accurate, current, and aligned with internal standards.
- Review general ledger activity, reconcile accounts, and oversee journal entries to maintain the integrity of financial data.
- Manage company cash flow and coordinate banking matters, including credit facilities, letters of credit, and related financial obligations.
- Lead the month-end close process and prepare timely financial statements for ownership and leadership review.
- Support accounting team members with transaction processing questions, issue resolution, and ongoing operational guidance.
- Partner with external auditors and provide required documentation and analysis during year-end audit activities.
- Coordinate financing efforts for equipment purchases and acquisitions, including evaluating capitalization treatment where appropriate.
- Prepare regulatory, government, and industry-related financial reports, including prequalification documentation and survey submissions.
- Oversee job cost reporting and collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure project-related financial information is complete and reliable.
- Contribute to staff management through evaluations, work allocation, and participation in hiring or assignment decisions as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a Controller role.
- Prior experience in the construction industry is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of month-end close, general ledger management, audit support, and core controllership practices.
- Experience working with financing arrangements such as debt, equipment financing, or related credit structures.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and accounting systems, including Viewpoint Vista.
- Ability to communicate clearly with internal teams, external partners, and auditors in both written and verbal formats.
- Proven ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and maintain accuracy in a deadline-driven environment.
