Our client, a successful and growing law firm in WNY, is looking to hire a Controller to join their team. This is a newly created role open due to growth that directly supports the Director of Finance. Business casual environment with a team-focused culture (lunches, events, celebrations, etc.).
Responsibilities
- Report to the Director of Finance, overseeing and performing daily Accounting Operations and Financial Reporting functions to contribute to the overall financial success of the organization
- Oversee Accounts Payable/Receivable and General Ledger activities
- Oversee billing (including pre-bill review, edits, and final invoicing) and coordinate with attorneys and billing staff to ensure accurate and timely billing
- Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring precise reporting
- Prepare journal entries, reconciliations, financial transactions, financial statements, and monitor cash flow
- Analyze financial trends, variances, KPIs, WIP, aging, and billing velocity
- Regularly review transactions to ensure proper classifications
- Collaborate with internal and external team members on audits by preparing financial documents and reports
- Create and present financial presentations to upper leadership, providing clear and complete information
- Manage trust accounting operations and monitor trust activity
- Analyze current processes, reporting tools, technologies, and workflows to identify gaps and offer actionable recommendations for improvement; develop and enhance reporting tools, KPIs, and dashboards
- Complete special projects in a timely manner
- Other duties as assigned or necessary
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree; CPA preferred
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including full-cycle accounting, close processes, reconciliations, financial reporting, data analysis, and GAAP
- Experience in a law firm is required
- Proficient computer skills, including advanced Excel (pivot tables, formulas, data analysis, etc.)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
- Strong organization and time management skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Self-motivated
- Must be authorized to work in the United States; Visa sponsorship is not available
- Relocation is not available
Schedule
Full-time, 100% in-office; Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM.
Pay
$90,000 - $110,000 annually, depending on experience.
