About the role
The Controller oversees the fiscal services department, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial statements. They manage multiple subordinate department managers and coordinate financial activities for the hospital.
Responsibilities
- Ensures accuracy and completeness of the hospital’s financial statements.
- Coordinates all financial activities for the hospital and manages multiple subordinate department managers.
- Participates in the hospital’s long-term and short-term financial process.
- Adheres to all financial policies and procedures as established by the Corporation through its Board of Directors.
- Provides advice and guidance in preparing and analyzing financial reports/statements.
- Evaluates data processing needs and recommends programs to changing needs.
- Reviews contracts and makes recommendations regarding the viability of the contracted service.
- Assists in evaluating the adequacy of the hospital’s insurance coverage and handles special/sensitive cases.
- Assists in developing an annual budget for the Hospital and monitors performance.
- Assists in analyzing the financial implications of proposed capital projects and expenditures.
- Communicates the hospital’s mission, vision, and plans with staff and promotes staff motivation.
- Provides orientation, in-service training, and annual performance reviews for department personnel.
- Participates in hospital and departmental performance improvement activities.
- May assume the administrative responsibilities of the CEO in his/her absence.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
- Minimum 3 years’ prior management experience in a hospital or healthcare setting.
- Licensed Certified Public Accountant preferred.
Qualifications
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Basic computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, Patient Accounting systems, and General Ledger systems.
- Thorough knowledge of accounting, finance, reimbursement, budgeting, credit and collection as relates to healthcare.
- Ability to spend a limited amount of time on travel required.
