About the role
The Controller will play a key leadership role while remaining actively involved in the day-to-day financial operations of the organization. This position is responsible for completing month-end and quarter-end financial statements, partnering with senior leadership on job costing, cash flow management, and budget forecasting, and leading the finance and accounting personnel in the Houston offices.
Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee all accounting and finance transactions for the Houston operations.
- Prepare accurate and timely month-end and quarter-end financial statements.
- Partner with senior leadership on job costing analysis, cash flow management, and budget projections.
- Develop annual operating budgets and periodic forecast updates in collaboration with Houston business unit leaders.
- Monitor and analyze actual financial performance against budgets and forecasts on a monthly basis.
- Ensure strong fiscal controls, accounting procedures, and business processes are implemented and maintained across the organization.
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase productivity and operational effectiveness across teams.
- Oversee approval processes for Houston cash disbursements.
- Provide leadership and oversight for the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable teams in Houston.
- Serve as the primary accounting and operational resource for ERP system support and related inquiries.
- Analyze financial data and provide strategic recommendations to executive leadership to support business decision-making.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and company financial policies and procedures.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA or MBA preferred.
- Minimum of 8 years of finance and accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
- 2+ years of construction accounting experience required, including percentage-of-completion accounting methods.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of GAAP.
- Experience with Oracle JD Edwards ERP software preferred.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Prior proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, changing environment.
- High attention to detail with the ability to maintain a strategic, big-picture perspective.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated leadership ability with experience managing and developing accounting staff.
