About the role
The Controller will lead and manage the monthly financial close process, ensuring timely and accurate reporting. They will also review account reconciliations and investigate variances or discrepancies, oversee inventory accounting processes, prepare and distribute monthly financial statements and management reports, analyze financial performance, maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures, oversee cash management activities, support treasury operations, review and approve various tax filings, supervise accounting and administrative staff, and coordinate annual financial statement audits.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the monthly financial close process, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
- Review account reconciliations and investigate variances or discrepancies.
- Oversee inventory accounting processes, including valuation, controls, and reporting.
- Prepare and distribute monthly financial statements and management reports.
- Analyze financial performance and provide insights to executive leadership.
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures.
- Oversee cash management activities, bank reconciliations, and payment processing controls.
- Support treasury operations, including ACH and wire transfer approvals.
- Review and approve various tax filings, including sales and use tax, property tax, and other business-related filings.
- Serve as the primary liaison with external auditors.
- Coordinate annual financial statement audits and support ERP and accounting system enhancements, reporting improvements, and process automation initiatives.
- Manage year-end reporting requirements and assist with tax provision activities.
- Cover external tax filings and coordinate with external tax advisors to ensure timely and accurate filings.
- Develop annual budgets and periodic forecasts for assigned business units.
- Monitor actual performance against budget and forecast expectations.
- Provide financial analysis and recommendations to operational leaders and senior management.
- Present monthly financial results and key performance metrics to stakeholders.
- Partner with business leaders to identify opportunities for operational and financial improvement.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation required.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting and financial leadership experience.
- Public accounting experience strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal control frameworks.
- Experience with inventory accounting and manufacturing or industrial operations preferred.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including complex formulas, financial modeling, and data analysis.
- Proficiency with ERP systems and financial reporting tools.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact effectively across all levels of the organization.
