Wisconsin Public Service Corp, a subsidiary of WEC Energy Group, is seeking a Control Room Supervisor for Hydro & Peaking Generation in Green Bay, Wisconsin. This position manages hydro and peaking generation assets located throughout Wisconsin and Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

Job Summary

This position works in a fast-paced, challenging environment, often working independently, and is responsible for the remote operations and monitoring functions for the hydroelectric and remote generation assets of WEC Energy Group electric utilities. This includes 30 hydroelectric projects with 90 generators and 18 gas-fired peaking generators spread across the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and Wisconsin. Responsibilities involve working directly with Power Marketing Real-Time and Day-Ahead Marketing staff.

Responsibilities

  • Remotely operate, control, monitor, manage, and dispatch hydroelectric stations, rotating internal combustion engines (RICE), Combustion Turbine (CT), and Solar Distributive Energy Resources (DERs) in a safe, reliable, economic, and regulatory compliant manner.
  • Coordinate, implement, assist, and document flood operations with PG - Hydro staff; implement Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) and identify potential and existing dam safety issues in accordance with the ODSP.
  • Provide input on strategies and policies for the dispatch of hydro/remote assets and assure that management directives are applied properly.
  • Monitor and operate security system equipment including cameras; document all abnormal security activities and communicate to management, Corporate Security, and local law enforcement as needed.
  • Prepare reports and maintain accurate records and logs; recognize failures of the remote hydro/remote generation Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system and call out appropriate personnel to locally operate/monitor plants as needed.
  • Call out and provide work directions to hydroelectric and remote generation site staff in accordance with union contracts.
  • Coordinate with Electric System Operations (ESO), Electric Distribution Centers (EDC), and Power Traders for safe, reliable, and economic operations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, HSED, or GED.
  • 1+ years of experience with analytical and methodical decision-making and demonstrated ability to make sound decisions.
  • 1+ years of experience working in a safety and compliance-driven environment.
  • 1+ years of experience with computer/PCs (web-based applications), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, or Human-Machine Interface (HMI) systems.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and collaboration skills with teammates and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as individually.
  • Must satisfy all company and NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection Standard CIP-004 security requirements, including a background investigation.
  • NERC Operator Certification (must obtain within 6 months of hire and maintain through continuing education hours).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Experience in generation, bulk electric system operations, hydroelectric, or Rotating Internal Combustion Engine (RICE - Wartsila) experience.
  • 1+ years of experience working in or supporting a continuous operations/non-traditional work schedule or real-time environment (e.g., control room, standing watch, monitoring critical equipment).
  • 1+ years of formal/informal leadership experience.

Schedule

This position typically works a 12-hour rotating shift along with additional 8-12 hour training/relief shifts to provide coverage during increased work demands, absences, and additional departmental support.

Pay

Pay Range Minimum: $90,507.56
Pay Range Maximum: $156,125.32

The pay range reflects the minimum and maximum for the position at the time of posting and may be modified in the future. The starting salary/pay within the pay range will be based on several factors, including relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, travel requirements, collective bargaining agreements, and business and organizational needs.
