About the role
This role is based in Austin, Texas and supports a 24/7 operating environment. The Control Room Manager will build and scale the Integrated Operations Center, leading the development and stand-up of Intersect’s Integrated Operations Center, recruiting, hiring, and developing a team of NERC-certified operators.
Responsibilities
- Build and Scale the Integrated Operations Center
- Lead the development and stand-up of Intersect’s Integrated Operations Center, establishing the operational foundation for a new 24/7 control room organization.
- Recruit, hire, onboard, and develop Shift Supervisors, Operators, and operational specialists to support continuous operations.
- Design and implement training programs, qualification pathways, operating procedures, and readiness assessments to prepare operators for NERC and ERCOT responsibilities.
- Establish a culture of operational discipline, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement across the control room organization.
- Lead Real-Time Fleet Operations
- Provide day-to-day leadership of a 24/7 control room responsible for monitoring and operating utility-scale solar, wind, battery storage, and gas generation assets.
- Oversee the accurate execution of dispatch instructions, ancillary service deployments, curtailments, and other real-time operational directives.
- Ensure continuous situational awareness across the fleet and coordinate rapid response to changing operating conditions.
- Manage operational workflows supporting both directly controlled and remotely coordinated generation assets.
- Drive Reliability, Compliance, and Grid Operations Excellence
- Maintain compliance with applicable NERC reliability standards, ERCOT operating requirements, and regional market protocols.
- Ensure operational procedures, documentation, and operator practices support regulatory readiness and audit requirements.
- Maintain and enforce clear operational controls that preserve the separation between reliability-focused dispatch activities and commercial trading functions.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen operational performance and control room effectiveness.
- Serve as Incident Commander During Critical Events
- Lead operational response efforts during grid disturbances, forced outages, equipment failures, and security-related incidents.
- Coordinate emergency communications and escalation procedures with internal stakeholders, off-takers, market operators, and leadership teams.
- Direct operational decision-making during high-pressure events to support personnel safety, asset reliability, and grid stability.
- Oversee event documentation and operational data collection to support post-event analysis and corrective actions.
- Enable Cross-Functional Operational Execution
- Partner closely with Field Operations teams to coordinate switching activities, maintenance execution, lock-out/tag-out procedures, and operational planning.
- Collaborate with Reliability & Commissioning and Technical Services teams to execute maintenance strategies and address performance issues.
- Ensure operational data is accurately captured and communicated to support warranty claims, asset performance evaluations, and commercial obligations.
- Serve as a key operational partner across Asset Management, Trading, Engineering, and executive leadership teams.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in utility-scale power generation, centralized control room operations, transmission operations, or related operational environments.
- 5+ years of direct leadership experience managing control room personnel, rotating shift teams, or other continuous operations organizations.
- Demonstrated success building, scaling, or significantly transforming operational teams, programs, or processes.
- NERC Reliability Coordinator (RC), Generation Operator (GOP), or equivalent certification required.
- ERCOT Operator Certification strongly preferred.
- Experience supporting utility-scale solar, wind, battery energy storage systems (BESS), gas generation assets, or comparable generation technologies.
- Strong understanding of real-time grid operations, dispatch execution, reliability standards, and operational risk management.
- Experience developing training programs, qualification matrices, standard operating procedures, and operational readiness processes.
- Ability to lead effectively during emergency events and make sound decisions in dynamic, high-pressure situations.
- Prominent ability to collaborate across highly matrixed organizations and influence stakeholders across multiple functional disciplines.
- Strong communication, coaching, and team development skills.
- Commitment to operational excellence, accountability, safety, integrity, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: 8+ years of experience in utility-scale power generation, centralized control room operations, transmission operations, or related operational environments.

- Leadership: Ability to lead and mentor a team of NERC-certified operators.
- Operational Excellence: Strong understanding of real-time grid operations, dispatch execution, reliability standards, and operational risk management.
- Training Development: Experience in developing training programs, qualification matrices, standard operating procedures, and operational readiness processes.
