About the role
Performs observation, monitoring, and security work in controlling access of public and internal entrances and exits at the Department of Corrections Juvenile Detention Facility.
Responsibilities
Security Management
- Maintain security by controlling access into and out of the facility, using audio and visual monitors including employee, public, and law enforcement entrances.
- Act as the primary provider of electronic access and movement within the facility.
- Effectively communicate through verbal or electronic means.
- Operate electronic and video security equipment from a locked master control booth and maintain facility and building security.
- Monitor all movement and activities of the interior and exterior of the facility.
Customer Service
- Process and log visitors to the facility by ensuring visitors have been approved for visitation; request staff to bring client to visitor and ensure that the area in which the client is being transported through remains secure.
- Maintain number of visitations to ensure that client does not exceed the regulated limit; ensure that visitors carry only what is permitted into secure area.
- Provide customer service through a high volume of contact with staff, visitors, and members of the public.
- Answer telephone calls to the facility; transferring them to the appropriate location, and pages employees and visitors when necessary.
- Provide customer service to parents by providing a handbook, answering questions, and obtaining the appropriate releases to be signed by the parent or guardian.
Records Maintenance
- Maintain a Master Control Board; recording the number and location of every detained client.
- Prepare and maintain various records, forms, logs, and boards; including visitation information and authorization in compliance with established policies and procedures.
Requirements
- One year of experience in working with the public in customer service or security work.
- Professional references are required to verify the related work experience.
- High school diploma or equivalent. Transcript verifying education credits is required.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Valid US driver’s license without restrictions and current automobile insurance.
- Pass legal background check, Child and Adult Abuse & Neglect Central Registry checks, KCJIS Security Policy (fingerprint) check, and pre-employment screens.
- Must meet the required conditions contained in KSA 65-516 and KAR 28-4-356(d), (1-5).
Pay
$19.33 per hour
Schedule
Various hours/various days, including holidays, weekends, and some overtime may be required.
