Employment offers are contingent upon the successful completion of these background checks. About Frontline Wildfire Defense Founded in 2017 by landscape ecologist and fire mitigation expert Harry Statter, Frontline developed the first fully integrated wildfire defense system to stop the leading cause of home loss in wildfires: ember-driven ignition. The system combines exterior sprinklers, full-coverage design, and connected software for remote monitoring and response, allowing homes to protect themselves long after families evacuate or infrastructure fails. Proven effective during the 2025 Los Angeles wildfires, 96% of homes with Frontline systems survived. That success has earned top industry recognition, including Frontline being recognized as one of TIME’s Best Inventions 2025 in the Green Tech category and receiving the PCBC Gold Nugget Award for “Most Innovative Housing Concept” and the Best of IBS Award for “Best Home Technology.” As wildfires grow hotter and more frequent, our vision is to give people the tools and strategies to live safely with fire. We’re building a mission-driven team creating real-world solutions in wildfire safety and climate tech. About This Opportunity As a Contracts Attorney, you will be Frontline’s dedicated commercial legal resource, owning the agreements that govern how we work with general contractors, vendors, and strategic partners. Reporting to our General Counsel and partnering closely with our Legal Team, you will be the first line of legal judgment on the majority of agreements moving through our business. Frontline sits at the intersection of construction project delivery, hardware manufacturing and procurement, and SaaS-enabled monitoring services. That means real variety in your day: a general contractor subcontract negotiation one morning, a vendor MSA the next, a marketing review after that. This is a high-autonomy role for an attorney who wants to practice commercially - giving fast, clear, business-aligned guidance rather than issue-spotting from a distance - and who wants to build the legal infrastructure of a climate tech company at exactly the moment it is scaling. Key Responsibilities General Contractor & Subcontract Negotiation Own GC agreement negotiation - Serve as primary owner for general contractor contract redlines, change orders, amendments, and supporting paperwork from first draft through execution.Negotiate installer subcontract amendments - Take primary responsibility for amendments to installer master subcontracts, ensuring changes preserve our risk position as scope evolves.Support the subcontracting engine - Act as the legal escalation and secondary reviewer on installer master subcontract creation and redlining, statements of work, SOW change orders, and time-and-materials agreements.Structure construction risk deliberately - Advise on indemnity, insurance and additional insured requirements, waivers of subrogation, lien rights, retainage, liquidated damages, and flow-down provisions. Advisory, Escalation & Risk Be the escalation point for the contracts team - Provide fast, practical answers to the Contracts Manager, Contracts Administrator, and Legal Operations Coordinator on direct-client and owner agreements.Back up the General Counsel - Provide support on privacy, regulatory compliance, litigation, employment, and finance-related matters as capacity and expertise allow.Balance risk against velocity - Distinguish material risk from theoretical risk and give clear guidance that lets Sales and Operations move.Partner cross-functionally - Work directly with Sales, Construction Operations, Supply Chain, Finance, and Marketing to translate contract terms into operational reality. Templates, Playbooks & Scalability Build the clause library - Develop and maintain contract templates, fallback positions, and negotiation playbooks that let the team resolve routine issues without legal review.Raise the team’s ceiling - Train and mentor the Contracts Administrator and Legal Operations Coordinator so more work can be handled at the right level.Improve the system - Identify bottlenecks in contract workflow and drive changes that reduce cycle time without increasing risk.Support compliance programs - Partner with Legal and Operations on licensing, permitting, insurance, and regulatory compliance initiatives.
