About the role

Responsible for maintaining an adequate quantity of essential materials or services required for the business to operate. Components of the role can include managing stock inventories, creating extensive and detailed requirements specifications for the required products/services, tendering with potential suppliers, evaluating competing bids, and negotiating prices. A purchasing agent may function alone in a small company or be part of a purchasing team in a larger company. In many cases, may refer ultimate decisions to a manager or executive for approval.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of major procurement programs in line with overall procurement strategy.
  • Identify contract requirements and write specifications for a medium portfolio or area of the business for existing contracts and/or new contracts.
  • Manage a portfolio of contracts and negotiate service level agreements.
  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise activities relating to major contracts.
  • Manage a category plan/program in line with the organization's purchasing/procurement and/or sales strategy to realize synergies, such as cost savings and risk-reduction, and/or optimization of category profit, while reporting to senior colleagues.
  • Collect and analyze key cost drivers, market dynamics, areas of innovation, and alternative suppliers for high-risk areas with few alternatives/high costs of changing, in consultation with relevant functions to provide solid market information for decision-making.
  • Develop and/or deliver budget plans with guidance from senior colleagues.

Requirements

  • University / Post Graduate (Master’s Degree) in engineering, business administration, or equivalent qualification.
  • 5 to 10 years of experience in construction contract administration or managing commercial relationships in large investment projects executed on an EPC/EPCM contractor basis.
  • Established project management skills and knowledge of relevant IT tools.
  • Professional experience including contract administration and/or subcontract administration, claims management, and drafting/reviewing contract-related documents and correspondence.
  • Change order and claims negotiation management experience.
  • Procurement phase experience reviewing RFPs, certs and reps compliance, contract terms, and risk assessment support.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with different stakeholders within and outside the organization.
  • Flexibility and willingness to travel (20-30%).
  • Ability to develop commercial relationships across a range of cultures to ensure project cost, timeline, and quality.
