Continuous Casting System Technician

About the role

Set up and operate the horizontal continuous caster (CC) according to standard procedures and output requirements.

Responsibilities

• Operate coreless induction furnaces (melter and caster)
• Operate the furnace power supply controls – metal temps to 2800°F
• Operate touch screen controls for CC operations
• Operate manual and automatic plasma cut-off operations
• Operate horizontal rod straightener
• Operate rod finish saw
• Build (ram-refractory-powder) liner for furnaces – melter and caster type
• Use cement type refractories to build and form side ports in the caster
• Assemble water cooled casting molds
• Monitor water cooling system and casting support systems
• Measure and melt raw materials in melter for small pigging operation
• Ongoing training and technical operations of special alloy CC operations
• Undergo special training for emergencies – power loss situations
• Casting operation will require continuous monitoring; must be able to work until a process is completed
• Understand and follow all Polymet Quality Management System (QMS) documents
• Maintain a clean and safe working environment
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Minimum training in vocational schools or an associate degree
• Exceptional mechanical skills and manual dexterity

Preferred Qualifications

• Understanding of metallurgy and casting principles
• Prior experience in foundry operating coreless induction furnaces
• Prior experience with horizontal continuous casting furnace
