Content Tutors
We seek a diverse pool of Content Tutors to assist student-athletes with course-specific knowledge and skill acquisition, including test/quiz preparation, decoding of lecture content, and managing reading loads.
Responsibilities
- Create, plan, and instruct sessions specific to course content.
- Conduct sessions using the CAST tutoring framework.
- Comply with NCAA and ACC rules and regulations as well as the UVA Honor Code guidelines through continuous training.
- Complete detailed session reports at the end of each session via the Athletics Academic Affairs reporting system.
- Communicate with Academic Affairs staff regarding any issues or concerns with student performance.
- Establish professional working relationships with students and the Athletics Academic Affairs Staff.
- Attend tutor orientation at the beginning of each semester and required trainings throughout.
- Monitor student progress and report to the appropriate constituents.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Position Compensation Range
$20-$22/hour based on education and experience
Program Hours
Tutor hours vary based on course need and student availability. Evening tutor availability strongly preferred.
- Monday-Thursday: 9am-9pm
- Fridays: 9am-5pm
Qualifications
- High School Diploma with some college course work
- Must have knowledge of the tutor course content and have received a B or better in that particular course
- Must be able to deliver study strategies specific to the content area
- Must have strong communication skills
- Must be highly organized
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality and the UVA Honor Code
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree
- Experience working with students in higher education
- Experience working with student-athletes
Physical Demands
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. All sessions will primarily take place in person with select virtual sessions.
