Job Summary
This position provides tutoring and academic support to fellow students. They model good student practices, facilitate learning, and foster student success.
Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality individual and small group tutoring sessions in approved subjects.
- Facilitate learning to assist students in becoming successful, independent learners.
- Facilitate student mastery of concepts or applications of a specific course of study as presented by the course instructor.
- Integrate effective study and learning strategies to maximize the student's potential for academic progress.
- Maintain ongoing professional communication with the Learning Support Manager and CAEI administrative staff.
- Encourage students to develop a systematic approach to studying that will serve them in many courses.
- Meet with Learning Support Manager and CAEI administrative staff to plan appropriate academic support for students.
- Record student data to the CAEI with accuracy and confidentiality and turn in such data at the conclusion of every shift.
- Accurately log work hours on Banner time sheets in Mercy Connect and submit them on time.
- Participate in professional development offerings.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned consistent with the position of Peer Tutor.

- Demonstrates written and oral ability to deal with customers, supervisors, and peers as needed to do the job and resolve difficult situations.
- Initiates actions that foster acceptance of organizational change and that build commitment to Department and university’s objectives.
- Demonstrates flexibility in the acceptance and completion of work assignments.
- Is punctual and maintains a satisfactory attendance record.
- Is appropriately attired for the office.
- Develops and maintains a cooperative, friendly and mutually supportive work environment for all staff.
- Uses resources wisely and effectively.
- Collaborates and cooperates with other managers and departments.
Required Skills & Experience
- Demonstrate an ability to quickly establish rapport and communicate well with students and instructors.
- Demonstrate mastery of the specific content area or a related subject area in which they will tutor.
- Provide names of two Mercy University faculty members who will provide letters of support on their behalf.
- Maintain an overall GPA of 3.0 and an average of B+ or better in subjects in which they tutor.
