About the role

McClatchy is seeking producers and writers to create content for the McClatchy Content Innovation Lab, the company’s next-generation approach to content. The lab will develop a steady stream of reader-focused, high-quality content for national and regional audiences across topics such as travel, food, outdoor recreation, sports, and crime. Writers and producers will work in dedicated communities of interest, moving quickly to experiment, pivot, and deliver results. The role requires a combination of writing, editing, organizational skills, and a bias toward action, with a track record of collaboration and adaptability. AI and emerging tools will be used to fuel experimentation and productivity.

Responsibilities

• Create, write, and edit high-quality content on deadline for national and regional audiences.
• Find content around data-signaled passion topics and develop creative ways to write and distribute the work.
• Collaborate with a team to produce relevant, credible, and abundant content grounded in audience data.
• Embrace urgency, adaptability, and a bias toward action to meet rapid experimentation and pivoting needs.
• Leverage AI and emerging tools to enhance content creation and productivity.

Requirements

• A combination of knowledge and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree.
• 3+ years of experience in content creation, writing, or journalism.
• Strong writing, editing, and organizational skills with the ability to produce high-quality content on deadline.
• Inquisitive mindset with a constant flow of ideas and creative approaches to content creation.
• Adaptability and flexibility to experiment relentlessly and pivot quickly based on results.
• Collaborative spirit with a proven track record of working effectively in team environments.
