Summer Thornton Design is seeking a highly creative Content Creator & Social Media Manager to bring our interiors, projects, process, and POV to life across digital and social platforms. This role is ideal for someone with exceptionally strong aesthetic skills who thinks in series, storylines, captions, covers, and scroll-stopping visuals, and is passionate about interior design and architecture.

About the Role

We are looking for someone energized by the day-to-day rhythm of working in a creative studio, who can be present in-office, notice real-time moments, and transform everyday studio activities—design meetings, sample reviews, vendor visits, installs, project updates, and team conversations—into beautifully captured and compelling content. You should also be able to review existing assets (project photos, install clips, press features, iPhone videos) and quickly identify fresh ideas, edit them into engaging posts, and package them in a way that feels elevated and true to the Summer Thornton brand.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and capture real-time content opportunities in the ST Design office/studio and at project sites, including design meetings, vendor visits, sample reviews, project work, team moments, site visits, installs, photoshoots, and day-to-day creative processes.
  • Film the Summer Thornton team and turn behind-the-scenes/making-of moments into professional, engaging social content.
  • Develop and execute fresh content ideas, hooks, series, and storylines across Instagram, Pinterest, email, website, blog, and other digital platforms.
  • Review existing photography, video, project imagery, install footage, press, and behind-the-scenes assets to identify new content opportunities.
  • Personally create, edit, and package short-form videos, carousels, stories, graphics, captions, covers, newsletters, and website content.
  • Build and maintain a content calendar and consistent publishing schedule.
  • Repurpose strong content across platforms, including turning social posts into blog, email, Pinterest, and website content.
  • Write strong hooks, captions, titles, covers, story copy, newsletter copy, and light website/blog copy.
  • Track content performance and recommend what to repeat, refine, or retire.
  • Update the website through Squarespace, including project imagery, press articles, blog posts, and other content.
  • Support broader marketing efforts, including press, photoshoot, editor, influencer, partnership, and imagery requests.
  • Establish and build relationships with key influencers and brands for cross-promotion, partnership, and brand-building opportunities.
  • Develop strategies and tactics to maximize online sharing of Summer Thornton content.
  • Coordinate with outside editors, writers, photographers, and videographers as needed.
  • Occasional out-of-state travel may be required for progress site visits, installs, photoshoots, or project/Principal designer-related content capture.

Requirements

  • A deep understanding of Instagram, Reels, Stories, Pinterest, YouTube, email, and emerging content trends.
  • Strong taste and visual judgment, especially around interiors, color, styling, framing, and composition.
  • Excellent editing instincts, including pacing, music selection, titles, covers, and hooks.
  • Ability to turn both live studio moments and existing asset folders into compelling content ideas.
  • Comfort filming in real time and capturing people, process, details, and behind-the-scenes moments.
  • Strong writing skills for captions, newsletters, story copy, and light website/blog content.
  • Excellent organization and follow-through, including maintaining calendars, naming files, tracking assets, and meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently, pitch ideas proactively, and execute without waiting for step-by-step direction.

Schedule

This is a full-time, in-person position based in our Lincoln Park (Chicago) office.
