About the role

A Consumer Loan Officer evaluates, authorizes, and denies consumer loan applications, acting as a liaison between members and the credit union. This non-commissioned role focuses on identifying products and services that best support members' financial success and assisting qualified applicants in acquiring loans in a timely, accurate, courteous, and confidential manner.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate creditworthiness by processing loan applications, reviewing credit reports, and providing documentation within specified time limits.
  • Interview applicants to determine financial eligibility and feasibility of granting loans.
  • Determine all applicable ratios and metrics and set up debt payment plans, GAP, MRC, and other loan-related services.
  • Assess member needs, explore all options, introduce different types of loans, and cross-sell products and services to accomplish company and department goals.
  • Build relationships and enhance member loyalty and satisfaction throughout the underwriting process.
  • Operate in compliance with laws and regulations, including Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) policies and procedures, and adhere to lending compliance guidelines.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • 4-year degree or some college preferred.
  • 2+ years of credit and/or consumer lending experience in a bank or credit union.
  • 2+ years of customer service experience with an ability to cross-sell products and services.
  • Solid understanding of consumer credit and underwriting, including knowledge of Consumer and Home Equity lending in a Centralized Lending environment.
  • Familiarity with computers and banking applications/software, including MS Office and in-house data processing systems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a goal-oriented environment with strong organizational skills, accuracy, and a positive attitude.
