Shift Description

Purpose: provides expert medication management and safety guidance, primarily reviewing patient regimens for appropriateness, effectiveness, and interactions, collaborating with providers to optimize therapy, ensure regulatory compliance, and act as a patient advocate for safe, cost-effective drug use. The focus is on the why and how medications are used, not just dispensing, by performing in-depth medication reviews and developing protocols.

What You Will Do

  • Meditation Regimen Reviews: Conduct comprehensive reviews (MRRs) to check for drug interactions, side effects, duplication, and appropriateness for the patient's health status, often reviewing charts, labs, and notes.
  • Collaboration: Work with doctors, nurses, and caregivers to resolve medication-related problems and implement safer plans.
  • Patient Education & Advocacy: Advise patients and their families on medication use, serving as a crucial link in care.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure facilities meet standards from bodies like CMS and The Joint Commission, overseeing storage and administration.
  • Policy & Protocol Development: Create and implement facility-wide policies, treatment guidelines, and drug utilization reviews.
  • Monitoring & Reporting: Track medication usage trends, investigate incidents, and report findings to improve overall pharmacy services.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an accredited program
  • Licensure: Active pharmacist license in the state of Florida
  • Experience: 3–5+ years of hospital or clinical pharmacy experience
  • Certifications (Preferred): Board Certification (e.g., BCPS, BCCCP, BCIDP, BCOP)
