About the role

This is a hybrid position located in Columbus, Ohio and you will be required to come into the office as needed. This role supports Consolidation Accounting and Enterprise Close Management. Primary responsibilities include coordinating key close & financial reporting deliverables, advising business partners on complex transactions, and managing timely and accurate delivery of GAAP and STAT financial consolidations, encompassing over 150 legal entities.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates the research, analysis and implementation of new and/or revised accounting policies and procedures. Develops recommendations to enhance, improve or facilitate job performance, processing or workflow.
  • Advises senior management on acquiring data, records, analyzing and preparing complex accounting transactions and statements.
  • Responsible for development and submission of complex accounting and financial transactions required to ensure accurate reporting at all levels.
  • Advises management of the accuracy of all reports, forms and data provided to internal and external clients/customers.
  • Captures and coordinates development of actions/policies to deal with unfavorable financial situations as disclosed by accounting analysis.
  • Functions as the specialist on changes to GAAP and/or STAT regulatory requirements which ultimately impact the submission of financial documents, reports and other data. Provides consultation on the internal impact.
  • Acts as project lead in development and design of new and enhanced systems and processes within the assigned area(s).
  • Guides the preparation and analysis of the most complex pro-forma financial data required for compliance with new requirements.
  • Provides advice to management on applying financial data and analysis to solve administrative and operating problems.
  • Captures and coordinates the preparation of complex financial information to provide to auditors, IRS, state examiners and other regulatory agencies, as assigned.
  • May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

This role does not qualify for employer-sponsored work authorization. Nationwide does not participate in the STEM OPT extension program.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate studies in accounting, finance or business administration; accounting major and degree preferred.
  • Progress towards CPA preferred.
  • Six or more years of related accounting experience; insurance experience preferred.
  • GAAP and/or STAT knowledge and functional business area regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge of industry standard methodologies in sophisticated financial statement preparation, including consolidation of companies/subsidiaries.
  • Knowledge of taxation principles and the related impact on statement preparation.
  • Understanding of company organizational structure, products and services.
  • Verbal and written communication skills for internal/external contacts.
  • Ability to analyze, discover and solve accounting problems, to interpret financial documents and data and to analyze and interpret legal requirements.
  • Project management skills.
  • Ability to interpret changes in financial reporting and legal requirements relative to the impact on financial statement preparation and to the formulation of company or business area policies and procedures.
  • Ability to effectively operate a personal computer and related software.
  • Ability to apply accounting principles, theories, concepts and practices to specialized, unique and/or nonrecurring complex problems.

Skills

Pay

The national salary range for Consultant, Accounting is $97,000.00-$180,000.00. The expected starting salary range for Consultant, Accounting is $97,000.00 - $145,000.00.

Schedule

Normal office environment; may require extended hours in periods of high work volume.
