NHS Ayrshire & Arran · Scotland, SD · 2 mo ago
Full-time

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK, employing around 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community, and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million, extending to 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.

About the role

This is a permanent, full-time post of 40 hours per week at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre (BWoSCC), which provides specialist oncology services to 60% of the Scottish population. The centre sees over 8,000 new patients and 60,000 return patients annually, delivering over 105,000 fractions of radiotherapy and 25,000 cycles of systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT) each year.

The Specialist Oncology Service is seeking a Consultant Oncologist in Melanoma and Upper GI. This role offers an opportunity for a clinician with imagination, drive, and commitment to collaborate with oncology consultants and the wider cancer multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical oncology input to Melanoma and Upper GI cancer services, working within established local and regional multidisciplinary teams (MDTs).
  • Participate in cross-cover arrangements for clinics alongside named colleagues.
  • Engage in clinical supervision of trainees.
  • Contribute to clinical trial recruitment, supported by an excellent trials team with a strong track record in opening and recruiting to trials.
  • Participate in postgraduate medical education, including lectures and meetings held on Friday afternoons.
  • Contribute to research, audit, and management activities within the department.

Research Opportunities

The BWoSCC has a strong clinical research track record, contributing to local, national, and international trials. The centre randomises approximately 1,000 patients annually through its Clinical Trials Unit, often ranking among the top global recruiting sites in international trials. This ensures high-impact publication opportunities for committed investigators.

Schedule

This is a full-time post consisting of 40 hours per week.

Flexible Working

NHSGGC recognises the importance of work-life balance and offers flexible working options where service needs allow. Flexible working arrangements will be discussed during the recruitment process.
