Essential and Supplemental Functions

  • Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.
  • A high school diploma or GED supplemented by thirty (30) credit hours of specialized training in construction, carpentry, plumbing, or welding;
  • Two (2) years general construction experience.

Additional Requirements

  • Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
  • Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements

  • Operations, services and activities of a facilities construction program
  • Methods and techniques of general construction and building remodeling
  • Methods and techniques of general carpentry, block laying, brick laying, painting, fence building and cement work
  • Operational characteristics of construction equipment and tools
  • Occupational hazards and standard safety practices

Working Conditions

  • Independently perform rough and finish carpentry, cement finishing, welding and plumbing tasks
  • Construct and repair a variety of fences
  • Operate a variety of construction equipment in a safe and effective manner
  • Perform material and cost estimating for less complex construction jobs
  • Read, interpret and follow blueprints and sketches
  • Work independently in the absence of supervision
  • Communicate clearly and concisely
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  • Perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation
