Essential and Supplemental Functions
- Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.
- A high school diploma or GED supplemented by thirty (30) credit hours of specialized training in construction, carpentry, plumbing, or welding;
- Two (2) years general construction experience.
Additional Requirements
- Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
- Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.
Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements
- Operations, services and activities of a facilities construction program
- Methods and techniques of general construction and building remodeling
- Methods and techniques of general carpentry, block laying, brick laying, painting, fence building and cement work
- Operational characteristics of construction equipment and tools
- Occupational hazards and standard safety practices
Working Conditions
- Independently perform rough and finish carpentry, cement finishing, welding and plumbing tasks
- Construct and repair a variety of fences
- Operate a variety of construction equipment in a safe and effective manner
- Perform material and cost estimating for less complex construction jobs
- Read, interpret and follow blueprints and sketches
- Work independently in the absence of supervision
- Communicate clearly and concisely
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
