About the role
The University of Georgia is seeking a Construction Worker II to join the Grounds Heavy Equipment division. This advanced position supports a wide range of construction and maintenance operations.
Responsibilities
- Operates skid steer, backhoe, excavator, dozer, dump trucks, and other equipment in support of civil related construction projects (utility installation, grading/drainage, hauling, paving/sidewalk, construction, etc) as assigned.
- Excavates and installs utility piping and assists with utility repairs as assigned.
- Establishes elevations and sets base for new pavement construction.
- Assists in asphalt placement as well as the forming and placement of concrete.
- Set up and perform traffic control. Place and maintain barricades, cones and temporary signage.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of related experience.
- Class B CDL and 2 years in the construction field preferred.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of construction practices/techniques, including, but not limited to, concrete forming/placement, grading, and job site safety.
- Ability to perform manual labor as needed in support of construction activities.
- Ability to operate heavy construction equipment, including, but not limited to, skid steers, backhoes, excavators, dozers, dump trucks, and other equipment used in civil-related construction projects.
Skills
- Knowledge of construction practices/techniques, including, but not limited to, concrete forming/placement, grading, and job site safety.
- Ability to perform manual labor as needed in support of construction activities.
- Ability to operate heavy construction equipment, including, but not limited to, skid steers, backhoes, excavators, dozers, dump trucks, and other equipment used in civil-related construction projects.
Physical Demands
- Lift up to 75lbs throughout and 8hr work day.
- Stand/walk for long periods of time, stoop, and bend.
- Work from a standard and extended ladder, and work with hands above head.
- Perform duties under adverse weather and/or climate conditions (rain, heat, and cold).
- Driving as needed to perform job duties.
