About the role
Our Transportation Construction Division is a talented team of experts working together to deliver engineering solutions that move people in a smarter way. We provide full-service planning, design and construction management services on everything from roadways and bridges to airports, stormwater infrastructure, utilities infrastructure and parks/recreation projects primarily for state and local agencies and municipalities.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or construction management and at least 2-3 years of construction experience, or 3-4 years of solid field experience with civil construction work in Utilities
- Familiarity with IDOT procedures and current IDOT Documentation of Contract Quantities certification
- Understanding of construction inspection practices
- Civil construction experience for Utilities, such as:
- Interpreting contract documents (specifications, reading drawings, etc.)
- Grading activities
- Concrete foundations (spread footings/drilled piers)
- Building experience (concrete, structural steel, precast erection, roofing, etc.)
- Strong organization and communication skills
- Proficiency with business and engineering applications such as Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
Responsibilities
- Assist on construction projects by providing inspection for various construction activities
- Maintain project documentation, including calculations, daily reports, and project filing
- Work under a Lead Engineer, applying standard techniques, procedures, and criteria with limited exercise of judgment on work details and preliminary engineering alternatives
- Interface and collaborate effectively with clients, consultants, subconsultants, vendors, employees, and the management team
- Build and maintain strong relationships with a focus on superior client service
