Construction - Technical Assistant (Temporary, Part-time)

About the role

The Township of East Brunswick is accepting applications for a temporary, part-time Technical Assistant within the Construction Inspection division. This role will provide technical assistance/support to the Construction Official and Principal Technical Assistant in the issuance of construction permits to assure compliance with the provisions of the NJ Uniform Construction Code and model codes.

Responsibilities

• Reviews applications for construction permits to ensure all necessary information and documents are included and requests additional documentation as instructed or directed by appropriate Subcode or Construction Official.
• Assists the general public by providing information of a technical nature concerning the requirements and standards in effect as they relate to the UCC.
• Provides a variety of Code Services for the public in one or more functional areas.
• Maintains necessary records and files.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Experience preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid NJ driver’s license.
• Technical Assistant Certification preferred.
• If hired on or after September 1, 2011, must reside in New Jersey or relocate within one year of employment; failure to do so may result in removal from employment.

Qualifications

• Thorough knowledge of administrative provisions of the NJ UCC as they relate to the activities of the office of the Construction Official.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with local and state government officials, staff members, and the public.
• Ability to maintain and oversee the maintenance of necessary records and files.

Skills

• Proficient in Microsoft Office software.
