About the role
The Construction Superintendent's primary function for Kyler Construction is overseeing the effective working of crews, organizing work, and scheduling subcontractors' activities to ensure maximum production and efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Thoroughly understand and follow plans and specifications in construction projects.
- Show leadership and possess a comprehensive understanding of construction techniques.
- Predict potential issues and implement solutions proactively.
- Control job costs and adhere to progress schedules.
- Read and interpret construction documents, including drawings, specifications, and Gantt-type schedules.
- Communicate project plans and activity sequences to all subcontractors and material suppliers.
- Adapt to and utilize technology.
- Ensure foremen are well-qualified and efficiently performing their duties.
- Properly lay out a project, ensuring correct grading and accurate location of structures.
- Review job schedules and cost breakdowns, resolving disputes with the Project Manager.
- Maintain OSHA compliance and document safety inspections.
- Ensure adherence to safety regulations by both company and subcontractor crews.
- Conduct weekly safety meetings.
- Attend to job site daily, maintaining a high standard of quality control.
- Instruct workers on good housekeeping practices.
- Ensure safety barricades and lights are operational.
- Work closely with the Project Manager for scheduling materials, equipment, and subcontractors.
- Keep the progress schedule up-to-date and review monthly job costs.
- Manage inventory of tools and equipment, ensuring proper return and secure storage.
- Secure the project nightly.
- Assist foremen with any problems and prepare daily reports.
- Execute change orders, ASIs, RFIs, and revisions on as-built plans.
- Monitor attendance and accuracy of time sheets for site personnel.
- Forward daily receipts, mail, reports, and shipping documents to the office.
- Participate in pre-construction and construction meetings, noting potential future issues and presenting them to the Project Manager.
- Assist inspectors during project reviews.
- Maintain positive relationships with inspectors, architects, subcontractors, and other key project stakeholders.
- Coordinate subcontractors on-site and report any performance deficiencies.
- Order and coordinate project materials with vendors.
- Manage job deliveries and check materials for damage.
- Review and coordinate submittals with the Project Manager.
- Assist the Project Manager with photo documentation and project progress.
- Complete weekly equipment use reports.
- Coordinate maintenance of project equipment and supervise its effective use.
- Attend technical meetings to discuss job progress and problem areas.
- Communicate regularly with the Project Manager about any unforeseen problems.
- Estimate percent completion for monthly invoicing and labor for job cost reports.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or GED.
- Experience in construction and management.
