About the role

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced General Contractor Construction Superintendent to join our team and play a crucial role in ensuring the successful execution of construction projects from inception to completion. This role may require travel.

Our company, Marand Builders, Inc, was established in 1999 and has built a reputation on reliability, attentiveness, and quality of execution. We specialize in serving the healthcare, financial services, commercial / administrative and light-industrial industries, and have 7 regional offices in Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia, and Florida.

Responsibilities

The successful Construction Project Superintendent will be responsible for enforcing safety compliance, supervising the work completed on project job sites, and conveying project plans to subs. Other key responsibilities include:

  • Completion of punch list items in a time frame consistent with the customer’s requirements and the project budget
  • Writing project documentation, including field documentation and office documentation such as timesheets and expense reports
  • Ensuring the successful and on-time completion and delivery of the project, including providing accurate progress reports and thorough look-ahead reports
  • Directing subcontractors to submit change orders to the project manager for approval
  • Supervising and reporting the progress of the work through the use of Procore
  • Supervising and ensuring the health and safety of the workers by enforcing all company, state, and federal guidelines
  • Leading safety toolbox talks weekly and performing general inspections of the workers and their work against project plans, specifications, and submittals
  • Coordinating with government inspectors on standard requirements of the site in terms of licenses and safety
  • Supervising subcontractors and ensuring they meet scheduling deadlines and maintaining overall cleanliness of the jobsite to Marand’s standards

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
  • At least a year of experience in the commercial construction industry, overseeing all aspects of ground-up projects in healthcare, financial, and light industrial sectors
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage multiple teams, subcontractors, and stakeholders
  • A Construction OSHA 30 within the last 5 years or ability to renew
  • Proficient in project reporting software, MS Office, and blueprint reading
  • Knowledge of building codes, safety regulations, and quality standards
  • Problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a proactive and results-oriented approach
  • A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel to various job sites

Qualifications

The successful candidate will also have:

  • Experience with program oversight on minor interior renovations work, minor MEP replacement work, finish work, and ATM projects in the $50K-$500K valuation range
  • Ability to supervise and lead a team, schedule and supervise multi-tasking work of a multi-member team, and demonstrate good problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both with team members and with the Project Management and Customer
  • Basic computer knowledge and experience in the use of Microsoft Office and Outlook software

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The individual typically works in an office environment and uses a computer, telephone, and other office equipment as needed to perform duties. The employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear, and frequently required to use repetitive hand motion, handle, or feel, and to stand, walk, reach, bend or lift up to 20 pounds.

The job is performed indoors in a variety of settings, including the office, interior building job sites, and job sites outside, and may involve exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions, extreme cold and extreme heat.
