Responsibilities
- Ensure the safe completion of projects within budget, on schedule, to the company's quality standards, and to the customer's satisfaction.
- Safety – Primary responsibility for job safety; ensure safety is incorporated into job planning and execution; promote accountability among staff and subcontractors; enforce project safety policies.
- Quality – Oversee all quality control on the project for both company and subcontractors; address repetitive quality problems with upper management.
- Job Planning – Develop and implement the pre-job plan; make course corrections as needed; create material handling and site utilization plans.
- Scheduling – Participate in project scheduling to ensure compliance with job planning.
- Mobilization – Complete tasks assigned in pre-job planning sessions.
- Coordinate and supervise all company workforces, including hiring, firing, and indoctrination of hourly personnel; hold foremen accountable.
- Develop Assistant Superintendents, Coordinators, Engineers, Foremen, and craft persons.
- Evaluate, develop, and retain personnel; recommend promotions, transfers, or terminations based on project needs and evaluations.
- Recruit salaried personnel as time permits.
- Coordinate and schedule all subcontractors; hold weekly scheduling meetings with subcontractors’ foremen.
- Develop forms and special construction methods for job efficiency.
- Maintain accurate timekeeping and cost records; analyze labor recaps and cost controls to address budget concerns.
- Expedite vendors and subcontractors daily/weekly; escalate major delivery issues to the Construction Manager.
- Material Receiving – Inspect materials for quantity and quality; ensure receiving tickets are properly signed, coded, and submitted.
- Equipment – Review equipment needs with the Project Manager and General Superintendent; prioritize company-owned equipment; minimize outside rentals.
- Owner Relations – Participate in Owner/Architect/Contractor meetings; communicate schedule changes and potential conflicts to the Owner and their representatives.
- Maintain positive relations with customers and neighbors; address special requirements sensitively.
- Maintain project logs.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or Business.
- 7+ years’ experience in a construction-related field, including staff leadership and management.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to function as part of a high-performance team.
- Excellent working knowledge of construction methods, facilities operations, and building systems.
- Familiarity with strategic planning.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a mobile work environment.
- Proficiency in MS Office 365 (Excel, Project, Word, SharePoint), Adobe Suite, and report-writing applications.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional accreditations, such as DBIA, LEED, etc.
Physical Requirements
- Heavy Work – Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 20 pounds constantly to move objects.
- Periodically walk, kneel, sit, crouch, reach, stoop, read/see, speak, push, pull, lift, stand, and finger/type; frequency varies by workflow and field activity.
- Frequently move about the jobsite.
- Operate computers, tablets, calculators, phones, and other office machinery.
- Frequently communicate with employees and external stakeholders on office and field administration topics.
- Constantly read written communications, mail, blueprints, and field measurements.
- Climbing – Ascend or descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and ramps at various heights.
- Balancing – Maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling while walking, standing, or crouching.
- Stooping – Bend the body downward and forward by the spine at the waist.
- Reaching – Extend hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction for various lengths of time.
- Grasping – Apply pressure to objects with fingers and palm regularly.
- Visual acuity and ability to operate equipment.
