About the Role

The Superintendent provides primary onsite management of projects, sub-contractors, and employees, including effective maintenance of customer relationships, client expectations, and concerns. The Superintendent reports to the Program Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise and coordinate activities of construction projects.
  • Perform supervisory and management functions reporting to the Project Manager.
  • May engage in some construction trades work alongside supervised workers.
  • Coordinate, direct, and lead workers engaged in construction activities.
  • Supervise crews to ensure top quality workmanship, efficiency, employee satisfaction, morale, communication, commitment, teamwork, and pride.
  • Work closely with the Project Manager to communicate changing requirements, scheduling, subcontractor issues, and other issues arising during construction.
  • Review and verify crew time sheets and submit to Payroll on specified days.
  • Recognize and communicate priority projects or problems, such as employee or job costing issues and client complaints.
  • Ensure proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed; escalate problems to the Project Manager, Safety Department, and/or HR Manager.
  • Provide calculations on hours involved, tons of materials needed, and resources required (trucks, plants, human resources).
  • Plan, allocate resources, manage production, and coordinate people and equipment.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position may include supervision of professional, technical, clerical, and/or labor staff in support of the project.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years of related skill, knowledge, or experience in construction practices, including on-the-job training and hands-on experience in a supervisory position.
  • Basic knowledge of administration and management.
  • Ability to read, understand, and apply information from blueprints, surveys, and job specifications.
  • Interpersonal skills to positively influence employees and subcontractors toward mutual goals.
  • Strong coordination, time management, active listening, oral and written expression, comprehension, critical thinking, and reasoning skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite products, including Word, Excel, Access, and email business software.
  • OSHA 30 certification.

  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team member with a good attitude.
  • Self-motivation and ability to work effectively under minimal supervision.
  • Ability to multi-task efficiently in a fast-paced environment on multiple projects with strong attention to detail.
  • Good judgment in carrying out duties and maintaining positive working relationships with the public and fellow employees.
  • Ability to recognize problems and work toward solutions.
