About the role
At McGrath & Associates, our Superintendents lead daily field operations on complex life sciences projects in North Carolina's Research Triangle. You’ll take ownership of pharmaceutical, cGMP cleanroom, laboratory, biotechnology, and process manufacturing projects, working alongside project teams and specialized trade partners to ensure safe, coordinated, and efficient execution.
Responsibilities
- Lead daily field operations on life sciences construction projects, including pharmaceutical, cGMP cleanroom, laboratory, biotechnology, and process manufacturing
- Coordinate subcontractors, site logistics, manpower, and sequencing of work
- Read and interpret complex MEP drawings, process piping layouts, HVAC systems, controls, and technical submittals
- Develop and maintain 3-week look-ahead schedules and keep critical activities moving
- Coordinate utility tie-ins, shutdowns, and other high-impact field activities
- Maintain a strong safety culture and enforce EHS requirements, cleanroom protocols, and cGMP standards
- Work closely with Project Managers, engineers, commissioning agents, equipment vendors, and trade partners
- Support commissioning and startup activities
- Maintain accurate daily reports, RFIs, safety documentation, and field change information using project software (e.g., Procore)
- Identify potential problems early and collaborate with the project team to find solutions before they impact the schedule
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience as a lead Construction Superintendent
- Experience with life sciences, pharmaceutical, laboratory, medical, or other high-tech construction
- Strong understanding of MEP systems, HVAC filtration, process piping, gas lines, and cleanroom environments
- Ability to read and understand complex construction drawings and specifications
- Experience coordinating multiple specialized trades on active jobsites
- Strong communication, organization, and field leadership skills
- OSHA 30 certification required
- First Aid/CPR and cGMP training preferred
- Experience with Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, and scheduling software such as Primavera P6 or MS Project
- Degree in Construction Management, Building Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field preferred—but equivalent field experience is valued
- Authorization to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship
