About the role

We are seeking an experienced Construction Superintendent to lead the interior build-out of a large pharmaceutical manufacturing facility. In this role, you oversee day-to-day field operations, coordinate multiple trades, and help ensure the project remains on schedule while meeting high standards for quality and safety. You serve as the primary representative on site, working closely with project management, subcontractors, and field teams to sequence work, resolve issues, and deliver a successful project. This position is intended to develop into a long-term opportunity with continued regional project assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary company representative and point of contact on the jobsite throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Manage daily field operations from project startup through closeout for a large pharmaceutical manufacturing facility interior build-out.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, inspectors, consultants, and deliveries across multiple trades and scopes.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed four-week look-ahead schedules to plan and sequence upcoming work.
  • Ensure subcontractors are properly sequenced and consistently meet schedule commitments.
  • Walk the project regularly to independently verify completed work and monitor field progress.
  • Confirm that installations match construction drawings, specifications, and client expectations.
  • Manage jobsite quality control, identify deficiencies early, and drive timely corrective actions.
  • Enforce site safety expectations and maintain a safe, compliant working environment in accordance with applicable requirements.
  • Review drawings, details, and current construction documents to stay ahead of design and coordination needs.
  • Coordinate foundations, underground work, site activities, framing, building enclosure, and interior construction scopes.
  • Oversee MEP-related scopes throughout the build-out, ensuring effective coordination of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing trades.
  • Communicate schedule risks, field issues, and required decisions clearly and promptly to the Project Manager.
  • Work collaboratively with the Project Manager, Assistant Project Manager, Project Engineer, and office team, who primarily manage the cost side of the project.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with the client, subcontractor partners, inspectors, and consultants.
  • Conduct or support inspections and ensure work complies with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements.
  • Document project progress and communicate effectively through email and construction management systems.
  • Use digital plans, PDF drawings, and construction software to manage information and support field execution.
  • Keep the job moving through proactive communication, including direct phone calls, emails, and on-site follow-up.
  • Protect and strengthen the client relationship by delivering consistent, high-quality work that positions the company for future projects.
  • Perform limited hands-on field tasks, such as minor adjustments or small fixes, when reasonably needed to maintain progress.
  • Coordinate and manage weekend and extended-hour work as required by the project, optimizing schedules to minimize disruption.
  • Support a collaborative, team-oriented culture on site by encouraging accountability, problem solving, and professional conduct.

Requirements

  • Approximately 15+ years of construction experience, including managing large, complex projects.
  • Demonstrated ground-up commercial construction experience from sitework through closeout.
  • Experience working for a general contractor on projects in the $2 million to $3 million range or larger.
  • Strong understanding of the complete construction process, including sitework and underground utilities, foundations, structural or wood framing, building enclosure, interior construction, inspections, and closeout.
  • Proven ability to coordinate multiple subcontractor trades effectively on active job sites.
  • Ability to read, understand, and build from construction drawings, details, and specifications.
  • Ability to walk an active construction site and perform the physical functions required of a field superintendent.
  • Client-facing communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with owners, inspectors, and subcontractors.
  • Ability to manage jobsite quality and safety, including enforcing safety expectations and identifying deficiencies.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including sending and receiving email, opening and reviewing PDFs, navigating digital construction documents, and learning construction management and scheduling platforms.
  • Ability and willingness to work approximately 40 to 50 hours per week, with occasional early mornings, extended days, and weekend work as project needs require.
  • Ability and willingness to travel for project assignments within the region.
  • Proactive, accountable approach to project execution, with a focus on keeping the job moving and resolving issues quickly.
  • Willingness to complete required background and drug screening.

Qualifications

  • College degree combined with relevant construction experience.
  • Experience in commercial construction projects, including retail, education, pharmaceutical, hospitality, religious, and high-end residential work.
  • Experience with look-ahead scheduling and working for a general contractor in a superintendent capacity.
  • Familiarity with coordinating mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) trades on complex interior build-out projects.
  • Exposure to carpentry and wood frame construction environments.
  • Understanding of construction safety practices; OSHA 30 certification is highly beneficial.
  • Experience using construction management software and scheduling platforms to support field operations.
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to personally verify work in the field.
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships and contribute positively to a team-oriented, employee-focused culture.
