Job Title: Construction Superintendent – Commercial Projects Job Description The Construction Superintendent leads all on-site activities for commercial building projects from initial mobilization through final closeout. This role serves as the primary field leader and is accountable for jobsite safety, schedule adherence, quality control, subcontractor management, and overall site operations. The Superintendent works closely with Project Managers, owners, architects, engineers, inspectors, and trade partners to ensure that each project is delivered safely, on time, within scope, and in alignment with project plans and specifications. Responsibilities Direct daily field operations and all on-site construction activities for commercial building projects.Serve as the primary field leader and point of contact for on-site matters, collaborating closely with Project Managers, owners, architects, engineers, inspectors, and trade partners.Manage and coordinate subcontractors, vendors, and field personnel to ensure efficient and safe execution of work.Maintain overall project schedules, including creating and updating three-week look-ahead schedules to track and forecast field activities.Lead and enforce safety initiatives on site, ensuring compliance with OSHA requirements and company safety standards.Implement and oversee quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) procedures to ensure work meets project specifications and industry standards.Coordinate all inspections and testing activities, ensuring timely completion and proper documentation.Manage site logistics, including deliveries, staging, site access, and sequencing of trades to support smooth field operations.Ensure strict adherence to project plans, specifications, and contract requirements throughout construction.Maintain accurate project documentation, including daily reports, logs, photos, RFIs, and other field records.Drive project completion by monitoring progress, resolving field issues, and proactively addressing schedule and quality risks.Support project closeout activities, including punch lists, final inspections, and turnover documentation.Collaborate with project leadership to support cost control, change management, and contract compliance from a field perspective.Participate in and lead regular site meetings with project stakeholders to review progress, address challenges, and align on upcoming work. Essential Skills Minimum of 7+ years of commercial construction experience.Proven experience serving as a Construction Superintendent on commercial projects.Hands-on experience with project scheduling and maintaining short-interval (three-week look-ahead) schedules.Strong subcontractor management skills, including coordination, oversight, and performance monitoring.Proficiency in blueprint reading and interpreting construction plans and specifications.Experience in construction management, project management, and construction supervision in commercial and/or industrial environments.Demonstrated ability to oversee field operations for ground-up construction projects.OSHA 10 certification (OSHA 30 strongly preferred).Experience with project scheduling tools such as Microsoft Project or Primavera.Ability to manage project documentation and reporting in a construction environment.Strong understanding of safety standards and OSHA compliance requirements on construction sites. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working in retail construction environments is a plus.Familiarity with Procore or similar construction management software.Experience working with general contractors on commercial and industrial construction projects.Knowledge of contract management, budgeting, and cost control from a field perspective.Experience with Bluebeam and BIM tools for plan review and coordination is beneficial.Experience with project coordination and field management for high-quality commercial construction projects.Exposure to the full project lifecycle, including preconstruction through closeout.Desire to work closely with Project Managers and field leadership to build strong foundational skills in cost control, contracts, and scheduling.Ability to work on projects in regional markets similar to NJ/PA and surrounding areas. Work Environment This is an on-site role based at active commercial construction projects, including retail developments such as ground-up and fit-out work. The Superintendent spends the majority of time in the field, overseeing day-to-day construction activities, coordinating trades, and managing site logistics. The work environment includes typical construction site conditions, such as exposure to weather, active equipment, and varying site conditions, requiring appropriate safety gear and adherence to safety protocols. The role involves regular interaction with project teams, trade partners, and inspectors, and offers hands-on exposure to the full project lifecycle from preconstruction through closeout. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
