Job Title: Construction Superintendent Job Description This role oversees all phases of construction projects from initial land development through final building acceptance, with a focus on hospital projects in the North Chicago area. The superintendent works primarily in the field while also supporting office functions such as bids, estimates, reports, and project tracking as needed. The position requires strong leadership, schedule management, and quality control skills to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget. Responsibilities Plan, manage, coordinate, and supervise the construction process from initial land development through final acceptance of buildings, ensuring timely and cost-effective completion.Originate, maintain, and update construction schedules for all trades with support from the Project Manager, and ensure contractors adhere to established timelines.Communicate clearly and directly with contractors to hold them accountable for performance, linking quality and timeliness of work to payment for services.Inspect each trade’s work regularly in the field and approve invoicing in alignment with contract payment terms and project progress.Manage and support subordinate staff on site, providing direction and oversight to maintain high standards of construction quality.Oversee and enforce safety practices on the job site to promote a safe working environment for all personnel and subcontractors.Facilitate weekly subcontractor meetings focused on planning, scheduling, quality control, and safety, ensuring alignment among all trades.Read and interpret blueprints and construction documents for prospective, ongoing, and future projects to guide field activities and decision-making.Assist with office-based tasks including bids, estimates, reports, logs, and project tracking when field demands allow.Coordinate and oversee work on a variety of project types, including commercial, healthcare, school, institutional, and municipal facilities.Monitor earth work and concrete work activities, ensuring they meet project specifications and quality expectations.Support build-out and ground-up construction efforts, contributing to planning and execution even when not the primary focus.Utilize construction management software, including Procore, to track project progress, documentation, and communication. Essential Skills Minimum of 5+ years of experience as a construction superintendent or construction project manager.Proven experience managing construction projects in sectors such as commercial, healthcare, school, institutional, or municipal.Ability to plan, coordinate, and supervise construction activities from land development through building completion.Strong proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and construction documents.Demonstrated ability to create, maintain, and manage construction schedules for multiple trades.Experience holding contractors accountable through clear communication and performance-based expectations.Hands-on experience overseeing earth work and concrete work on construction projects.Proficiency with Procore or similar construction management software.Strong leadership skills with experience managing subordinate staff on job sites.Solid understanding of construction safety practices and the ability to enforce safety standards.Effective communication skills for leading meetings, coordinating subcontractors, and collaborating with project managers.Ability to balance field responsibilities with periodic office-based tasks such as bids, estimates, reports, and logs. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with build-out and ground-up construction projects is a plus, though not required.Background working on hospital or healthcare facility projects is highly beneficial.Familiarity with institutional and municipal project requirements and processes.Strong organizational skills for managing documentation, logs, and project tracking.Ability to adapt to different project types and environments while maintaining consistent quality and safety standards. Work Environment This is a 100% on-site role based in the North Chicago area, primarily supporting hospital construction projects. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, typically from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with the potential for occasional Saturday work depending on project needs. The superintendent spends most of the time in the field on active construction sites, coordinating trades, monitoring progress, and ensuring safety, with periodic time in the office for bids, estimates, reports, and project tracking. The environment is fast-paced and highly collaborative, involving regular interaction with subcontractors, project managers, and field staff, and relies on tools such as Procore and other standard construction technologies to manage documentation and communication. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Willowbrook, IL. Pay And Benefits The pay range for this position is $55.29 - $60.10/hr.
