Construction Staff Field Technician Intern

About the role

The Test Technology Division of Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Intern to support defense-related technical projects. This position involves supporting field testing and data collection efforts alongside engineering and scientific staff at Kirtland Air Force Base and White Sands Missile Range. As a Construction Field Technician Intern, you will assist in the fabrication of structures and test articles. We're looking for someone who works well in a team environment, is eager to learn, and can contribute creative ideas while developing problem-solving skills alongside experienced engineers and technicians. In this hands-on role, you will gain experience using a variety of tools and equipment, including saws, drills, forklifts, welding tools, and other mechanical systems.

Responsibilities

• Support test setup and data collection efforts
• Fabricate test articles and structures
• Perform tasks such as welding, carpentry, machining, concrete placement, heavy equipment operation, and surveying
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment
• Maintain assigned tool and equipment inventory

Essential functions

• Ability to obtain a DoD security clearance
• Problem solving and communication skills
• US citizenship is required
• Able to wear a respirator – Fit test for Air Purifier, Half-face and Full-face respirator
• Ability to read provided design drawings or willingness to learn
• 25% Traveling (as needed)
• Work outside conditions
• Lift 50lbs

• Some familiarity with operation of heavy equipment or willingness to learn
• Metal fabrication capabilities or willingness to learn

• Concrete placing and finishing skills or willingness to learn
