Construction Staff Field Technician Intern
About the role
The Test Technology Division of Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Intern to support defense-related technical projects. This position involves supporting field testing and data collection efforts alongside engineering and scientific staff at Kirtland Air Force Base and White Sands Missile Range. As a Construction Field Technician Intern, you will assist in the fabrication of structures and test articles. We're looking for someone who works well in a team environment, is eager to learn, and can contribute creative ideas while developing problem-solving skills alongside experienced engineers and technicians. In this hands-on role, you will gain experience using a variety of tools and equipment, including saws, drills, forklifts, welding tools, and other mechanical systems.
Responsibilities
- Support test setup and data collection efforts
- Fabricate test articles and structures
- Perform tasks such as welding, carpentry, machining, concrete placement, heavy equipment operation, and surveying
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment
- Maintain assigned tool and equipment inventory
Essential functions
- Ability to obtain a DoD security clearance
- Problem solving and communication skills
- US citizenship is required
- Able to wear a respirator – Fit test for Air Purifier, Half-face and Full-face respirator
- Ability to read provided design drawings or willingness to learn
- 25% Traveling (as needed)
- Work outside conditions
- Lift 50lbs

- Concrete placing and finishing skills or willingness to learn
