Construction Site Safety Manager
HSE Recruitment seeks a Construction Site Safety Manager for a major infrastructure programme in Somerset, based in Bridgewater.
About the role
Lead health, safety, and environmental performance across a major construction and infrastructure programme, ensuring the protection of all personnel, contractors, and the environment. Drive a positive safety culture, manage risk assessments, approve RAMS, oversee contractor compliance, conduct site inspections, and investigate incidents and near misses. Ensure adherence to CDM regulations, wider HSE and environmental regulations, and ISO standards. Act as a visible leader on site, influencing behaviours, promoting a strong safety culture, and reporting performance insights to senior stakeholders. Report to the Head of HSE, collaborate with fellow HSE managers, and eventually lead a team of advisors.
Responsibilities
- Drive a safe working culture and manage risk assessment activity
- Approve RAMS (Risk Assessments and Method Statements)
- Oversee contractor safety and compliance
- Carry out site inspections and audits
- Investigate incidents and near misses
- Ensure full compliance with CDM and wider HSE and environmental regulations
- Provide assurance against ISO standards and internal frameworks
- Influence behaviours and promote a strong safety culture on site
- Report performance and insights to senior stakeholders
- Support wider group locations as needed
Requirements
- Strong HSE management experience within large-scale construction, ideally in a highly regulated sector such as chemical, oil & gas, or similar
- Hands-on, visible leadership with proven people leadership capability
- Solid knowledge of UK health, safety, and environmental legislation, especially CDM regulations
- Confident communicator, comfortable engaging contractors, senior leaders, and regulators
- NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent)
- CSCS card
- Local resident or prepared to relocate to Bridgewater
