Construction Services Department Manager
About the role
The Construction Services Department Manager will lead the Kennesaw, GA office and help expand MC Squared's Construction Services practice in the Southeast. This is a leadership role for an experienced professional who enjoys developing people, building client relationships, and driving operational excellence.
Job Responsibilities
Lead, mentor, and develop construction services staff, laboratory personnel, and future leaders.
Promote a culture centered on safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Ensure all employees follow company safety policies, procedures, and pre-task planning requirements.
Support recruiting, onboarding, and professional development initiatives.
Oversee daily operations of the Construction Services department, including laboratory and field activities.
Ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with company quality standards.
Manage staffing, workload, scheduling, and resource allocation.
Review technical reports, proposals, contracts, and project deliverables.
Provide technical oversight for construction materials testing, special inspections, and related consulting services.
Manage project risks, subcontractors, and quality assurance activities.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with contractors, developers, engineers, architects, owners, and public agencies.
Pursue new business opportunities through client relationship development, market engagement, networking, and strategic business development initiatives.
Lead or support proposal preparation, client presentations, interviews, and pursuit strategy to help secure new work.
Collaborate with company leadership to identify growth opportunities and expand MC Squared's Construction Services presence throughout the region.
Promote exceptional client service while ensuring a high level of client satisfaction and repeat business.
Manage departmental budgets, forecasting, profitability, and resource planning.
Monitor operational performance, staff utilization, and financial metrics.
Develop strategies to improve operational efficiency and department performance.
Provide regular operational and financial updates to company leadership.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
10+ years of experience in Construction Materials Testing, Special Inspections, Construction Services, or consulting engineering.
Demonstrated leadership experience managing teams, operations, and client relationships.
Experience securing new work through client relationships, proposal development, and business development efforts.
Experience managing departmental budgets, financial performance, and business objectives.
Strong knowledge of construction materials testing, quality assurance, and construction practices.
Excellent communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills.
