Construction updates for the week of July 20, 2026.

River Street Streetscape

This Past Week

• Backfill excavation area for retaining wall
• Sidewalk repairs and resetting existing brick pavers
• Completed installation of pipe bollard bases at Oak Street
• Started installation of new storm sewer
• Started installation of underground electrical conduits
• Continued brick paver installation in the Plaza

Next Week

• Continue placing brick pavers in Plaza, working west to east
• Continue installation of storm sewer
• Continue installation of underground electric
• Start concrete work in the intersection of River and Oak Streets

Current Traffic Control

• Detour route is set up on Maple Street to Water Street
• Oak Street intersection will have limited access during construction and will be closed at times
• Access to all businesses is open in the work zone and closed section of River Street
• Temporary walkway has been installed for access on the south side of River Street, east and west of Oak Street

Fountain Park

This Past Week

• Began removal and stripping of topsoil
• Fountain was removed and shipped out for refurbishing, returning to Manistee later this year

Next Week

• Remove fountain basin and foundation
• Complete miscellaneous removal items

Veteran’s Memorial Park Improvements

This Past Week

• Amphitheater area is still open and has access for use
• Last load of retaining wall block delivered
• Started on framing repair on west fishing deck
• Grading for retaining walls is ongoing
• Installation of modular concrete retaining walls continues, and some areas have been completed
• Additional framing work for wood decks continued

Next Week

• Continue the preparation work for the retaining walls
• Continue installing modular concrete retaining wall
• Continue to repair wood framework on the boardwalk

Riley Apartments (Manistee Township)

This Past Week

• Connected water main to the City’s system if all testing passes
• Connected the Bus Barn water service to new main

2026 Street Improvements

Planned to start on August 4th. Molon plans on starting with milling and paving on Division B at First Street and Division C at Seventh Street.

The Project Includes Three Divisions

Division A - 14th Street, Maywood Avenue, and 15th Street Improvements

• Full road reconstruction of 14th Street, Maywood Avenue, and 15th Street from Care Center Drive to Vine Street
• Project consists of drainage swales, machine grading, upgrading permanent signing, HMA paving, and minimal concrete work

Division B - 1st Street and Maple Street Rehabilitation

• HMA cold milling and resurfacing of Maple Street from 12th Street to Memorial Drive (excluding the Maple Street Bridge)
• HMA cold milling and resurfacing of First Street from Maple Street to Cypress Street (US-31)
• Upgrading permanent street name signs from S. Lakeshore Drive to Maple Street

Division C - 2026 Miscellaneous City Street Overlays

• Butt joint milling, structure adjustments, and HMA overlaying of miscellaneous City streets
