Construction Operations Manager (Denver)
About the Role
BrainWorks is retained on a search for a Construction Operations Manager (Installation) with a rapidly scaling engineering, construction, and maintenance firm focused on specialty transportation infrastructure. The business has grown significantly since its 2020 launch (now ~$190M with strong margins and ~550 employees) and is widely regarded as one of the leading platforms in its space. The role has responsibility for a team of 70+ people, reports directly to a Regional President, and leads the construction/installation business across the West region (Denver-based). You will have full ownership across operations, safety & quality, project execution, materials & equipment utilization, team leadership, and financial performance. This is a highly visible role with meaningful impact as the company continues to scale both organically and through M&A.
Responsibilities
- Lead the construction/installation business across the West region, overseeing a team of 70+ including project managers, superintendents, and field crews.
- Own operations, safety & quality, project execution, materials & equipment utilization, team leadership, and financial performance.
- Manage a $35M+ operation with full P&L accountability.
- Drive financial and operational discipline across estimating, contracts, materials, equipment, project scheduling, and financial analysis.
- Scale the business both organically and through M&A integration.
- Serve as a respected leader to PMs and superintendents, running the business beyond individual project management.
Requirements
- Broad-based operations leader — a step above Director of Operations — with proven ability to run a construction business, not just projects.
- Strong knowledge of the construction/installation industry including estimating, contracts, materials, equipment, project scheduling, and financial analysis.
- Background in highway construction, civil and/or electrical construction; horizontal construction experience is mandatory.
- Knowledge of ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems) and/or Traffic Signal construction/installation industries highly desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to lead a construction team of 70+ people (PMs, superintendents, field crews).
- Data-driven mindset with strong business and financial acumen.
Schedule
In-office position (Denver, CO) with approximately 30% field travel.
