Construction Materials Testing Technician / Special Inspector
NOVA Engineering & Environmental is seeking a CMT Engineering Technician / Special Inspector to join our growing team in Kennesaw, Georgia. You’ll work on a variety of high-profile commercial, industrial, educational, healthcare, transportation, and infrastructure projects throughout the Atlanta metropolitan area. This role offers ongoing training, mentorship, certification support, and opportunities for advancement into senior technician, special inspector, project management, and engineering support roles.
About the role
As a CMT Engineering Technician, you will play a vital role in helping ensure the quality and safety of construction projects by performing field testing, inspections, and documentation activities.
Responsibilities
- Perform field testing of soils, concrete, asphalt, aggregate, masonry, grout, mortar, and reinforcing steel in accordance with ASTM, AASHTO, DOT, and project specifications.
- Observe construction activities and collect field data on active construction sites.
- Review construction plans and specifications in preparation for field observations and testing assignments.
- Document testing results, observations, and site conditions using electronic reporting systems such as Metafield.
- Communicate testing and inspection results with NOVA project managers, engineers, contractors, and clients.
- Assist project teams in identifying and documenting construction issues, deficiencies, and compliance with project requirements.
- Maintain and calibrate testing equipment in accordance with industry standards.
- Safely work on commercial and heavy civil construction sites throughout the Atlanta area.
Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in construction materials testing, construction inspection, geotechnical testing, or related field experience.
- Current ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician - Grade I Certification.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and project specifications.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
- Basic computer skills and ability to complete electronic field reports.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds of testing equipment and materials.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions (PPE and weather-appropriate gear provided).
- Ability to walk, climb, bend, and work safely on active construction sites and uneven terrain.
- Willingness to occasionally travel overnight for short-duration assignments.
Preferred Qualifications
- ICC Soils Special Inspector.
- ICC Reinforced Concrete Special Inspector.
- ICC Structural Masonry Special Inspector.
- Additional ICC, NICET, ACI, or construction inspection certifications.
