About the role
Wood is recruiting a Construction Manager for its Life Sciences business. This position is Onsite and based in Maryland.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for all aspects of construction management project of various sizes and complexities
- Accountable for the overall contract construction effort and commissioning strategy; including safety, planning, cost and delivery of all field works on the Contract
- Supervise, organize and coordinate head office, site construction and commissioning teams to provide high quality support in accordance with the Contract
- Ensure full construction integration to project delivery by encouraging regular engineering, procurement and construction interface meetings
- Provide construction expertise during FEED, Detail Design, in the form of constructability reviews, scope minimization and ensuring safest and most efficient construction methods adopted
- Engage with other contractors/sub-contractors to ensure seamless delivery at site(s)
- Engage with individual project teams to ensure correct level and sequence of Work Breakdown Structure adopted at project kick off
- Ensure all Site activities are performed in a safe, environmentally responsible manner with integrity and quality delivering HS&E targets
- Oversight of home office team to ensure quality construction input to the integrated engineering and planning processes
- Delivery of site teams to meet Client’s business schedules
- Delivery of reduced costs at site by continual review of performances and improvements by the site teams
- Manage and control project cost and schedule of assigned discipline / subset of on site construction
- Utilize Commercial processes to capture variations effectively
- Works with engineering in the design phases to influence the design for optimum constructability
Qualifications
- At least 10 years of experience in a relevant industry, preferably in Life Sciences
- Proven experience in the management of site construction and commissioning teams
- Strong preference for candidates in the area of Montgomery County, MD
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Proficiency in document creation and editing (Microsoft Office Products such as Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint and Excel)
- Well-developed interpersonal skills are necessary in order to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing requirements to a wide range of client groups (internal and external)
- Self-motivated, ability to work independently, or in a team environment, and provide leadership, support, direction, and consultation
- Able to manage multiple initiatives with strong organizational skills to meet project deadlines
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to organize, analyze and report on various parameters and data sets
- Able to proactively detect challenges to safety, quality, cost and schedule that will ensure development and execution of effective prevention, mitigation, or corrective actions
- Able to establish and maintain a positive and effective customer relationship, ensuring payment terms are met, and communicating any delays
- Well organized, observant, good interpersonal and communication skills
- Able to work with timelines/targets
