What Your Day Will Look Like

As a Flood Control Construction Manager, you will provide leadership, oversight, and management of flood control infrastructure projects, including large-scale earthwork, excavation, rip rap installation, channel improvements, stormwater conveyance systems, detention ponds, and drainage facilities. You will oversee contractor operations, coordinate with stakeholders, and ensure construction activities are executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project plans, specifications, regulatory requirements, and contract documents.

What You'll Do

  • Manage and oversee flood control construction projects from pre-construction through project closeout.
  • Direct and coordinate contractor activities to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, permits, and contract requirements.
  • Serve as the primary field representative and technical resource for construction-related engineering decisions.
  • Monitor project schedule, budget, quality, and safety performance, identifying and mitigating potential risks.
  • Review and approve shop drawings, material submittals, Requests for Information (RFIs), change orders, and pay applications.
  • Coverge with clients, regulatory agencies, utility companies, contractors, and project stakeholders.
  • Conduct field observations and site visits to verify construction is performed in accordance with approved design documents.
  • Evaluate construction progress and prepare status reports for project management and client review.
  • Review quantity calculations, contractor payment estimates, and construction documentation.
  • Resolve field conflicts, design discrepancies, and unforeseen site conditions through sound engineering judgment.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, stormwater pollution prevention requirements, and erosion and sediment control measures.
  • Lead project meetings and facilitate communication between project stakeholders.
  • Utilize engineering principles and advanced calculations to evaluate construction progress, quantities, and project performance.
  • Support project planning, constructability reviews, value engineering evaluations, and risk management initiatives.
  • Verify completion of projects through final inspections, punch list reviews, and project closeout activities.

What You'll Need

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering discipline.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Texas.
  • 8+ years of progressively responsible experience in heavy civil, water resources, flood control, drainage, transportation, or municipal infrastructure construction.
  • Experience managing flood control, stormwater, channel improvement, detention basin, levee, or TxDOT-related projects preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of construction management practices, contract administration, and engineering standards.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply engineering plans, technical specifications, geotechnical reports, and contract documents.
  • Experience with project scheduling, cost control, quality assurance, and risk management.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficiency with engineering and construction management software.
