Be part of the nation’s only repository for the disposal of nuclear waste known as Transuranic (TRU) waste. Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, LLC (SIMCO), managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP), is seeking a qualified individual to join our team located in Carlsbad, New Mexico.

About the role

The Construction/Maintenance, Safety, & Health Manager ensures the safety, health, and well-being of all employees, subcontractors, and visitors on construction sites and during maintenance activities. Responsibilities include developing and implementing policies and procedures, conducting regular safety and health inspections, and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular safety and health inspections to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions
  • Provide training to employees on proper safety procedures and the use of personal protective equipment
  • Investigate accidents and incidents, identify root causes, and assist management in implementing preventive measures
  • Collaborate with project managers to develop and maintain site-specific safety plans
  • Review and analyze incident reports and safety data to identify trends and areas for improvement
  • Monitor and evaluate subcontractors' safety performance and enforce compliance with safety requirements
  • Oversee the maintenance and inspection of safety equipment and ensure its availability and effectiveness
  • Stay up to date with new safety regulations and industry best practices
  • Coordinate with external agencies during safety inspections and audits

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree plus fifteen (15) years of professional experience, or
  • Associate’s degree with nineteen (19) years of professional experience, or
  • High School Diploma or equivalency with twenty-three (23) years of professional experience
  • Proven experience in construction safety management
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Must be authorized to work and remain in the United States without SIMCO visa sponsorship now or in the future
  • Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the WIPP Site (even if teleworking, must still comply with security requirements)
  • Non-U.S. citizens from countries identified by the Department of Energy as posing heightened security concerns are subject to additional security requirements that limit site access

Preferred Qualifications

  • WIPP, Bechtel, or DOE-related experience

Pay

Salary range: $134,030 to $237,594 per year. The specific salary offered will be influenced by the candidate’s relevant experience and education.
